chrisglass Tell me three things to do in Vancouver:
1.) A good place to eat (I can't tolerate Thai food, but everything else is game.)
Well the only cuisine that sucks in Vancouver is Mexican. Not a decent burro to be found anywwhere. But most others are to be found. Certainly for Chinese I can recommend Szechuan Chongking on Commercial Dr @ 12th Avenue in East Van--make sure you get the spicy beans and deep friend bread. Vancouver's home to one the longest--and strongest--Sikh communities in North America, and there's an abundance of excellent curry houses: 2 that come to mind are Nirvana at Main St. betw East 7th & 8th Aves, and the Natraj on West Broadway (near Willow, North side, on the main floor of the big honkin office block). Both are very reasonable and have great food.
If you'll be staying strictly in the West End/Downtown area (where most of the homos are), a genuine Canadian meal can be had at Rooster's Quarters on Denman betw. Robson and Haro. It's Montréal style barbecue--spicier and less tangy than texas-style, plus awesome pea soup and that quintessential canadien treat poutine (fries with sauce and cheese curds; sounds hideous, but ain't). For more generic West-coast cuisine, I heartily recommend Milestones On the Beach (Denman @ Davie): good food, awesome view of the sunset.

2.) A place to get a brew. (Where does one find the furry folk?)
Easiest question: The Pumpjack, on Davie betw. Thurlow and Bute (north side). The leather bar, but be warned it gets busy early Fri and Sat nights...there's a lineup by 10pm each night. There's a beer bust Sunday afternoons 4pm onwards as well. The line-ups are as much due to the owners trying to run a pub on a restaurant liquor license as to the somewhat restrictive occupancy rules in Vancoouver. If you don't feel like waiting, Numbers (Davie betw Thurlow and Burrard, south side) attracts a varied crowd Fri-Sun evenings.
3.) A place of interest. (could be some natural wonder, or a man made thing of marvel)
The obvious is Stanley Park, 1000 acres of 2nd growth forest in the downtown. Pretty much everything but bear are found there (including coyotes, eagles, and even the streams spawn salmon. The sea wall around it is about 5km, and is popular for walking, biking or blading. Gorgeous.
Man-made would be the Museum of Anthropology at UBC. Incredible collection of West Coast indigenous artifacts (collaboratively managed by First Nations and university staff), in a specatular setting overlooking the Strait of Georgia and Vancouver Island. If you're driving from downtown, head south over any bridge and turn right onto 4th Avenue. Drive several kms until 4th becomes Marine Drive. The Museum will be on your right. by transit take a #4 or #10 bus from Granville Street to the UBC bus loop, then follow the signs (there's a big map there). or ask someone at the bus loop, they'll help.
And in general, Vancouver has great café culture--soak it up anywhere, but especially Delany's on Denman (next to the Shell petrol station). Have a great time!!!!
