Dis/ability and eros

My friend bitterlawngnome is a brilliant photographer. He has a knack for drawing the beauty of people through his lens in ways few of us can. And never of the obvious sort.

But today his work is particularly remarkable: it's a photo shoot with his friend A., who is dis/abled.

Not safe for work, but I think more people need to see this. It's too important.

I hesitate to comment and look like a complete tosser, because (seriously) I don't get it. I must be missing something profound; all the comments seem to indicate that these pictures are something special - groundbreaking even. Yet all I see is a man having a wank. I'm confused.

No you're not a tosser because that is just exactly precisely what it is ... just Armando wanking.

But for a lot of people the idea of a "disabled" guy being sexual is a really big weird deal. A lot of misery is connected with people not seeing it as just a guy having a wank. More like you would be good :)

Well for me...people with dis/abilities are often presumed to be asexual or deemed non-sexual beings. So the photos of a man asserting his sexuality--particularly when juxtaposed with his wheelchair--is a powerful image.

Great photos. I saw a photography exhibit in June at the Museum of Sex on this very subject. One of the subjects was a former Playboy model who became paraplegic after a car accident.
