surf de neige
Feb. 14th, 2008 09:50 pmWinnie and finally made it up to Cypress tonight for a night of skiing/boarding (he ski, me board). Last year we went together on Thursdays about a dozen times; today was his first trip of the season and only my 3rd.
It hasn't snowed on the mountains in several days, so we weren't expecting very good conditions. However it remained +2C and dry most of today, so at sunset excellent spring conditions were in place. And the temperature only dipped below 0C at the base after 21h. I call nights like this "marshmallow ice": there's a layer of thick soft snow on top of hard pack. More scraping as the night wore on, but it never became unskiable.
And I did my first Blue (intermediate) run without having to take the Walk of Shameâ„¢. In less than ideal conditions.
:)
Walk of shame: starting a ski/boarding run, but having to stop and take off said board/skis and walk down.
