For all the whinging in parts of Western Europe about the Balkan bloc and Ex-Soviet bloc, generally these countries go to great pains to select a great song and seasoned performer to represent them before all of Europe.

Eliminating....some remarkably bad moosic. Like, really bad. Road kill hypnotic bad.

I give you...the bottom 5 of 2008 national selections!

More than slightly worried, because I like some of these. I mean, not Malta, obviously, and the Estonian song was quite pleasant until he (didn't) hit that inadvisable top note. As for Spain, well, thanks, but no gracias.

But Lithuania's guy had me swaying along, and the Moldovan miss sang well. Living creatures have some features in common with us. No arguing with that.

I haven't heard all the selected finalists, yet. But so far I like the Swiss and Hungarian entries. UK isn't bad, either. At least it's a song for Europe, as opposed to a desperate gimmick. Speaking of which, I don't know what to make of dear old Dustin. Possibly dinner.
