Ma went into hospital again a couple of weeks ago--this time whilst in Pennsylvania. First the first time in over a year they had to put her on a vent (intubation)--largely because she couldn't get enough air into her lungs.
A couple of days ago they put a trach in (which means no intubation and makes weaning from the vent much easier. They did this last time and it worked. As of yesterday she's in a short-term rehab facility.
This time the doctors are saying either she'll get well enough to go home in a short period of time, or she'll have to go into a nursing home for keeps. And I can't think of anything that would gut Ma more than being in a nursing home.
And so I am very, very sad. As soon as we get a sense of the next phase, I'll be heading back East for a visit.
