Fascist groups in the Serbia have said the will target gay men who attend the Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade next month with violence
The president of the fascist organisation Obraz, announced the group's violent intentions in the pages of daily newspaper ALO! on April 7, calling Eurovision "gay youth day."
The reaction Serbian authorities in charge of the event have to the fascist threats has alarmed lesbian and gay activists in the country.

We are not organising their arrival, therefore we can not take care of their security," Aleksandar Rados, the Eurovision organiser's PR, said of gay visitors.

Obraz is notorious for its extreme homophobic views and taste for attacking gay people.

Their threats have led some to question whether Belgrade is a suitable location for a contest that is both a gay favourite and a powerful symbol of European unity.

Semi-finals of Eurovision 2008 will be held in Belgrade on May 20 and 22, with the final on May 24.

Of course it's a bit late to move the thing. You think someone would step up and do something; it can't look too good if something DOES go down on Serbian soil involving attacks upon anyone, gay or otherwise.

Oh and they figured this out *now* as opposed to a year ago when questions first arose about gay rights in Serbia?? Wankers.
You'd think that either the EBU makes sure that Serbian authorities will protect Eurovision fans, no matter who or what they are, or they move the contest. But it's too bloody late for that now...

Um... I realize I'm not in Europe but who says that Eurovision is a gay favourite? I know lotsa people who are gay and nobody even talks about it.

It's certainly a regional thing. Many gay bars in Europe show the event live, and almost every Eurovision fan I've seen overseas is gay. :: laugh ::

Okay, well it's probably like a lot of gay cultural things in being regional.
