Careful...nothing pisses off Greeks like being called Balkans. ;)
My best mate in Australia's parents are from Greek. Every year at the Eurovision "we're gonna win." OK they did once. And in the run up to the 2004 Summer Olympics he was all "we did a great job, didn't we?" And I was all "well, if we forget the building never built, the building half built--yes, good job!"
Is it like that in Bulgaria? Slovenia's gonna be a shock for you: it's like the best of slavic, germanic, and adriatic cultures. Passionate, organized, flavourful. When are you going?
Most of us Bulgarians are the ever-complaining kind. :) I hate to say it, but it's a very bad combination of Balkan and post-Soviet here. It won't be easy to overcome...
I'm leaving on 14th September, arriving in Ljubljana on 15th at 5 AM their time (poor paterson_si, he has to meet me so early), and then leaving on 14th in the evening. A 15-hour journey from my capital Sofia to Ljubljana by bus... and I must get to Sofia first. I'm just crazy! :)
I hope to meet mitjablazic and vksi too on 14th before I leave... those Slovenians just don't stop in one place!
That lyric was a memorable mondegreen for me. I first heard it on AM radio in Boston in the early '80's as "I've been to paradise but I've never been to Maine." I thought it was a really cheesy tourism promo of some sort.
