Did that. Also suggested eliminating the pointless guarantor requirement and simplifying the photo requirements... there should be no obligation to use a professional photo studio, and the list of things that are not permitted in the photo is ridiculous (no smiling!).
At least they've simplified the renewal process. Until recently, every passport renewal was treated like a first-time application, with all the annoyances that implies.
As a lawyer, I can tell you that I used to be constantly signing passport applications. The number of people who would come out of the woodwork when they needed a passport ... I was always happy to do it, but it just seemed so silly that I had to somehow "bless" their application.
Oh, really? That's good news. The photo requirements are still a huge pain; they're sufficiently different from the US requirements that it's hard to find a studio in the States that will do it right. I'm going to need to renew early next year, so the next time I visit my family in Montreal I should make a point of having some pictures taken there.
