Eesti! Eesti! Eesti!
Oct. 28th, 2010 06:07 pm It may seem early, but the selections for the 2011 Stuttgart Eurovision Song Contest are already gearing up. Most country have either closed submissions or will do so by the end of November. Then, starting with Albania's Festivali i Këgëles, we'll learn the entries between mid-December and mid-March.
I'm a sucker the the lil' fella who punches above her weight--even more so at the Eurovision. Starting in the mid-1990s that was clearly Estonia who, beginning in 1996 wracked up top entries--including a win in 2001--six out of seven years. Then they fell into the wilderness it seems--only to roar back to life in 2009 with the fantabulous Rändajad. This year's entry had the potential to do well, but Malcolm Lincoln's quirkiness came across as a bit nervous. Or psychotic, perhaps.
But I digress...
This year Estonian entry will be selected through a similar process as the last two years. But today news comes that we might be able to assume both the song and the entry already. Because one of the winners of Estonia Idol/X-Factor/Woteva reality show--Jana Kask--has announced her recent hit single is her submission. Before you yawn and think "oh sure, another amateur" check this out:
That's her singing live. That's not the song--it's entitled Don't Want Anything and it's in English. Here's one of those audio with slideshow thingies of the song on Youtube:
Sings well live, buckets of stage presence, good English diction. They'll need to chop it down to 3 minutes and re-arrange it with some extra welly...but I think this could do very, very well.
