The visit's going well. Really well. Thanks to all who've sent their well-wishes.

[livejournal.com profile] querrelle is going to work most days while I'm here (except Friday, which he's booked off), so I'm left to my own devices. And yesterday the devices were my iPod and Palm Pilot. Apple's updated to the iPod software rendered my inoperable, and after avoiding it for as long as possible, I had to Restore it to factory settings. Meaning the 5K songs I'd ripped and installed would have to be re-ripped. About 10% are on my hard drive, so this is a pain. But at least the 'Pod seems to be running normally again. But getting the bloody restore to work took hours.

The Palm was in storage here, so I had to dig it out and synch it. No big whoop.

Yesterday I lunched with Scott, bought some grocs, and came home. Watched telly, loafed. Left over lamb for dinner. Low key. Then hot hot boy love in the alien birthing chair. High key. Last night we left the windows open and I turned a fan on; we've lost our ability to maintain comfy body temperatures whilst cuddling all night. But we're making contact, and it's all good.

Today I shall get some work done in the morning, then head off to a beach somewhere. Between re-loading music onto my iPod. My turn to cook tonight.

I had an issue with the iPod update, as well. Mine didn't come with the dock, and when I updated, tried to sync with just the cable, it locked up. It wouldn't show up on my desktop, either, so I couldn't re-install or anything!
My roommate let me plug in his dock, and it synched right up.
Apparently, the update requires the dock to work properly. Wanky.

Hope ya solved the problem.

Have you got your iPod reset yet?
I wanted to letcha know that I think the dock is only needed for the upload of the new software-- after that, it works fine with just the cable like it did before.
There was a note on the download webpage that said the update only worked with the dock, but it's only the first time.
If I find a workaround, I'll letcha know. That's a long flight without music.

a couple of links...

the second one outlines a procedure to boot iPod in firewire mode, then how to reset it to factory. Hope this at least gets it working!
