It's a new computer, it's supposed to work.

It was OK to start off: boot up, lovely Apple welcome and setup screens. Fab music, purdy colours. Found the wireless network no problem.

Couldn't find my .mac.com account via the .mac System Preferences, nor could I log onto .mac.com via Safari. I could access my iDisk via the Finder, but couldn't set up iSync to sync .mac.com.

So I called support. Apple really needs to have a separate support line for end users who know more than their level one phone folks. 30 minutes with this (probably quite nice) guy, whose listening skills weren't great. Level 2 support was much better, and we narrowed it down to a problem specific to Safari. At his suggestion I did a reinstall of the System software, and after a bit more tweaking it works. Now a few more hours tonight installing various and sundry apps (strange that one can't merely use an existing serial number to validate the Office for Mac that comes bundled on the machine. So it's been de-installed and now I'll install my 2 copes (2001 and the X version, which is an upgrade) so I can start doing some work on here again.

Aside from this shite, it's a nice machine--the monitor isn't quite as nice as my old PB, but it's crispy, the wireless is snappy, and all is is fine.
