I'm in my loverly office @ work1 (there's a work2 too), where I have on a sweatshirt because the air con is sew fookin' cold. If I leave my office, off comes the sweatshirt, because the common areas and outside are sew fookin' hot. And not in a Nelly it's-gettin'-hot-in-herre-take-off-all-your-clothes kinda way.

A while back I committed to writing a couple of dictionary entries. This is an academic/scholarly dictionary, more about terms and concepts than word definitions. One of the entries--on marginality--is interesting, fun and challenging. The other--on facilitation--is pedantic and plate. Paradoxically the latter is to be 2500 words and the former 1500. Were it up to me I'd swap those lengths. But it ain't, thus so it shall be. Yesterday they were outlined and framed; today I'll edit and grind and cram them into penultimate (or pen-penultimate) form. Due date: 15 January, in Canada, electronically. It need also be said that academic work--at least substantive academic writing, IMHO--requires many hours of think-work, before Word is booted up and reams of paper are ingested. In that sense I've been working on these for many months. If anyone leading a pathetic and boring life is interested in either of these entries--for a peruse more than feedback--lemme know, eh?

OK here's the plan: A good thorough edit through each, then off to McDo for lunch, then more editing. Then pick up dry cleaning on the way home, then a quiet evening with the boyfriend. Who makes me feel like a man every day. Often a dilated one.

Oy what I have to write you shouldn't want to know, nu? But the pleasant diversion of editing someone else's work is always fun. It's sort of a legitimate escape - I'm doing something intellectual, yet at same time it's not MY work, dig?

Am flying into St Thomas then taking the ferry to Tortola. I've friends who live on a sailboat there, and we're just going to float around the BVI.

and by the way (off topic), i wimped out on contesting that grade. i'm afraid of the conflict -- it's hard to face conflict when you're producing enough estrogen for 50 non-pregnant ladies. :/

I find it interesting when you use the expression "McDo" for the fast food chain -- whereas people who grew up in Australia would almost invariably use the contraction "Macca's", being the generic contraction for any Scottish/Irish Mc/Mac name.

McDo is what it's called in Quebec (mak dough). Everytime I say it, I get a brief flash of thick-necked, thick-dicked, brunet men....mmmmmmm
