bon Yieu donne-moé un job
Mar. 30th, 2004 05:30 pmToday I signed a contract with a major Australian university. It’s an academic appointment, complete with sponsorship for work permit, good salary and an ear to the Dean--in other words, social capital potential galore.
I’ll start in a few weeks (need to get visa sorted), and now I have to pick a new computer for myself. They won’t let me buy a Mac, so it’s a PC. I’m leaning towards a Toshiba Tecra M2--anybody got any feedback they can offer.
The job means no money or visa worries for me and
querrelle. A huge pressure valve has been released. I’m dancing nekkid as I type this!
Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Hoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Date: 2004-03-30 06:31 am (UTC)I'm so excited for you.
The tecra seems to be a bit of a brick (quite heavy). What are you looking for, and what are your options? Can you pick anything, or is there a limitation of what you're allowed to choose from?

Date: 2004-03-30 03:21 pm (UTC)I can spend about 4k (Ozzie bucks). I want multimedia, including DVD burner. Any manufacturer in Oz is fine.

Date: 2004-03-30 08:46 am (UTC)I'm surprised you didn't turn it down because they wouldn't let you get a mac *snicker* (and I'm not belittling the job... i was quite sure you'd turn down eternal youth and immortality if made to choose between that or your mac *smile*)
Looking forward to seeing you.

Date: 2004-03-30 10:37 am (UTC)... and the last Toshiba Tecra I had sucked ass in a serious way. Shitty design, huge, heavy, horrid battery life, and frequent hardware failures. It was the worst computer I've ever had the misfortune to use. That was, though, in 1997-1998. Maybe they're better now.
What are the other choices? Then again, it doesn't really matter, because I'd pick anything other than a Toshiba.

(PS- Toshibas are very good. I've four of their laptops around the house in various stages of dissection, and they've never failed. As per desktops, I guess they'd only be more stable than a laptop. But hey... University gig, boyfriend, no money troubles, and a new comp? I'm fookin' jealous!)
