Today I signed a contract with a major Australian university. It’s an academic appointment, complete with sponsorship for work permit, good salary and an ear to the Dean--in other words, social capital potential galore.

I’ll start in a few weeks (need to get visa sorted), and now I have to pick a new computer for myself. They won’t let me buy a Mac, so it’s a PC. I’m leaning towards a Toshiba Tecra M2--anybody got any feedback they can offer.

The job means no money or visa worries for me and [livejournal.com profile] querrelle. A huge pressure valve has been released. I’m dancing nekkid as I type this!

BTW, if you have to buy a PC laptop, try to ask them for an IBM ... it is a tad pricey, but they have good support and the best hardware out there (Toshiba is not bad, my dad vouches for Compaq's, but I am not sure they are nay good after HP took over!) I supported both IBMs and Toshibas, the IBMs were definitely more reliable with much less problems, but both beat Dell's for sure ... Aussies are so anti-Mac, I heard Mac's are very expensive down under though ...
