1.What is one of your favorite books? What makes it so terrific?
So many books, so so many. The Temple of My Familiar by Alice Walker made me think--and feel--like no other. The Stone Diaries by Carol Shields has passages that are among the best every written: how can a book wring sobs out of me and make me feel whole? But if I have to pick one book to read over and over again, it would be...the omnibus version of the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series by Douglas Adams. I loathe science fiction; this ain’t science fiction. It’s humanity.

2. Where is a good place to eat in Sydney?
41. It’s an old-skool contiinental cuisine, with all the trapping of white man $$ but no stuffy servers. They’re excellent as is the food. It’s where [livejournal.com profile] querrelle and I go to for special occasions.

SO need to read Hitchhiker's guide before seeing the movie... tick tock... I think I've got a week*rolls eyes*.

MY favorite book... ever: The Neverending Story, by Michael Ende. Hardback with the multicolored text and gorgeous gold snake emblem on the cover (nope, I got it in a sales bin 15 years ago for*gasp*, $5.00 U.S.). Read that book more than a dozen times, and no, it's nothing like the kiddie movies.

I like The Stone Diaries V.much but I thought Larry's party was exceptional. Following the course of his life just seemed to me so believable and just so damned spot-on. I couldn't believe it was awoman writing so intimately about a man's life.

I have a autographed copy of The Temple of My Familiar, which, shamefully, I never got around to reading; perhaps now it'll move to the top of the summer reading list again. When we met, we had a very interesting conversation about the Color of Money, and how difficult she found it to come to terms with the film version. Thanks for the memory!
