jawnbcI am tired of the antipodean life. Stop the ride I wanna get off. Please.
I could rant about what's wrong with Australia, but that's really not the point. What is wrong with Australia is it's not Canada. Nor is Sydney Vancouver. Oz doesn't suit me like Canada does...and I suspect this is all coming to a head (my head, to be precise) now because I'm closing in on the departure date for my trip to Vancouver and SF (17 May-08 June).
So I'm crabby. For fun, let's presume my crabbiness, in its particular manifestations is actually caused by the things that are right up my nose presently. These are:
new iPod features not available to older iPods. I mean, what the fook--I paid CA$800 6 months ago, and I can't access the new bloody alarm clock and on-the-go playlist? Bullshit, total bullshit
writing a paper. I'm going to SF for the US-based in early June. This year's event includes the first-ever queer/LGBTA pre-conference, which I want to support. So I'm giving 2 papers in SF, one at the main conference and one at the queer pre-conf. And the pre-conf paper was due 41 minutes ago and I've several--no, many--hours of work still to do.
money. My fellowship is gonna run dry 3-5 months earlier than anticipated; will soon enter the cash advance zone.Only the fookin' Aussie gov't won't permit international post-docs to teach while here; good for students and the post-doc (exposure to new perspectives & intl developments).By coming here, I essentially took a 10k salary cut.
love life. Getting it, lots. Could use some romance, intimacy--haven't felt this sort of longing in years. But if I get into something/someone now, I'm leaving in August anyways: wanted, intense, short term relationship with lots of passion and fun and no expectations. Uh-huh, yeah, right
For some reasons, the song "out here on my own" from the Fame soundtrack keeps popping into my head....this cannot bode well for my mental health.
