With a bit of age comes a bit of wisdom. And I've been to enough conferences to know that a full day spent in sessions can only result in burnout--and an emotional bottoming out the day after the conference. So I slept in a wee bit and arrived late morning. Some good sessions, and my paper was well-received--by the 5 people who turned up!

Good thing my ego isn't fragile...I just wanna be loved, is that so wrong?

The queer caucus had its meeting, including a great guest speaker (John DeCecco); he started the queer studies program at SFSU. As the other homos/allies try to organize getting to dinner, I bid them adieu and caught the Muni for my own dinner plans with some of da boyz from LJ: sfkuma, sinnabor, drewbearsf and that_dang_otter. Food was OK, company more than.

Then most of us (save sfkuma) toddled off to the bearhug. Tons of fun, quite literally. It's now 2am and time for bed--2 more sleeps til I'm back in Sydney and with querrelle!

Thanks for arranging last night. I am terribly sad that the food wasn't up to par.
The company was great. I had met Drew once before, and have known Brian for a long time. He is a really neat guy...as are you.
I hope you weren't put off about the "autographed picture"...it was meant as a bit of humor. Jawn, you are a hunk...
Although you're better in person. I had a good friend who "fucked" his way through Grad school. He was making $50-$100/hour....not bad for a working boy.

Vis a vis the AIDS issue...I was part of a study that was looking at the genetics of those of us who should be dead. I came through all that and am HIV neg.
I didn't do anything that my friends didn't do....all the drugs, limitless sex, impersonal stuff in the park...like getting fucked by an uncounted no of dicks in the bushes...I don't know. Apparently there is something about in the genetics of people who are from NE Europe. My Dad's people came from Byelorussia and Poland.

I was told, that I have 1/2 what it takes...(obviously my mother's Balkan and Mideast heritage wasn't what was needed)
Maybe I was just lucky...I don't know. But I have buried 70+ friends amongst which were 3 lovers.

I hope the next time you are in SF, you will chat me up...

They also found a bunch of prostitutes somewhere around the African subcontinent at some point that didn't get infected, and tested them to find they had a mutation that was in one of the proteins that HIV uses to enter the cell - so they were uninfectable. I don't know if anything more has been done with it, though.
