Big Eurovision news: next year will have 2 semi-finals, ostensibly to reduce the impact of neighbourly and diasporic voting on who qualifies for the final. This year's winner (Serbia) and the Big 4 (Spain, UK, France, Germany) are the only automatic finalists. And only the top 9 from each semi will be awarded by televote: the 10th will be the highest ranked jury song not in the top 9. Assignments for each semi-final will be a draw rather than regional.

*squee*

Don't forget Vancouver peeps, my annual Eurovision Final partay will be on Saturday 12 May at 11am (show starts at noon)!!!!

Nothing like a good cuppa, a great shag, and a night of snuggles to make a man feel at home. And a metamucil. What hath Gawd wrought?

Two semifinals -- I can't believe it!! You know, it's the more logical choice after some of the shit that was automatically qualified throughout the last few years. I'm QUITE anxious to see what this will do to the results!!

QTF!!

Oh, I am loving that decision! I'm not sure how our television station will cope with it - they moved the semi-final showing to Saturday this year, not sure why exactly. So, no doubt another email will be sent so that they can be made aware of such things. (and an email to ask them to show the Melodifestivalen!!)

I think the choice to make it via a draw for the semi-final is the most sensible idea but the west really have to get it into their head that they actually have to be active participants in the whole process, not just the final. The East still see it as an event to win for their country and something to show their country off (as well as a potential ticket for the winner for international stardom). Of course, I do believe that the Big 4 have to be brave boys and girls and stop being automatically moved into the final - I believe this is one reason why the rest of Europe don't vote for them, and another why the UK doesn't put a lot of effort into it (although I didn't mind this year's entry).

I will be expecting a statistical guess from yourself of course, on the potential for winning such semi's once the draws for each semi final is known (now how sensible is that - 2 semi's... unlike Sweden who liked to have 4).

so...
