Just so I'm on the same page, lemme get this straight:

If I say I'm hurt and have been hard done by on LJ and threaten to take my marbles away and play somewhere else, I'll get dozens of messages begging me to stay?

Does no one consider the possibiility that a person's own harsh, callous or ignorant postings (or responses to others' postings) inspire vitriol?

What's next--picking teams for dodge ball?

sadly, the answer to your question is very simple. OF COURSE people know...they either don't care about the collateral damage, or they posted what they did for the intent purpose to CAUSE hurt. And most hide behind the catch-phrase, "It's MY journal. I'll say whatever I want to."

If someone says something that hurts/offends you, you should feel free to let them know. If they don't seem to care about your feelings, perhaps you shouldn't read their journal/remarks anymore.

Live Journal can be used in many different ways, and as you have probably noticed, it's used as a weapon from time to time.

Sorry someone upset you.
