Grade one: one happy chappy

Originally, purely, I was a sweet, sweet boy. I smiled, I sang, I laughed, I hugged. I wanted everyone to like me, but I also pretty much liked everyone else too. Mrs. Fay, an ould skool primary school teacher (who no doubt attended Normal School rather than teacher's college was nurturing and tough. We all felt special, we all wanted to please her by doing our best. As far as I can remember, she never shamed any of us. Even when she flunked me for penmanship.

My penmanship, btw, still sux. But I'm a frickin' doctor, so neener neener!

I wish penmanship was still taught in schools. The state of handwriting today is appalling.

Well I agree...sort of. But in my case it really was pointless. My handwriting was the same if I spent 5 seconds or 30 minutes.
