election

All I want for Xmas is this election cycle is another minority government, meagre enought for the Conservatives to be (possibly) circumspect, with enough New Democrats to hold the balance power instead of those fuckwit separatist scumbags asswipes shitstains.

Oh, and the Liberals as Betty's Loyal Opposition. Let Paul Martin Junior unpinch his "I hadda make same-sex marriage legal! I hadda!" nose and go back to the private sector, where mediocre leadership isn't nearly as damaging.

Ouch, that's pretty harsh considering you're talking about (at least) one Québécois out of two and almost everyone I know artisitically and through my belle-famille. I'm not trying to start a fight or anything, believe me, but the Bloc is a legitimate political party and if you talk to people here, you'll see why their hopes for sovereignty are not crazsy or racist or fascist or old-fashioned. I've always thought that the one element missing from the whole debate is that Canadians from the rest of the provinces and Québécois do not speak to each other about this issue... They just complain back and forth!

Well, I'm inclined to favor the original post. 1 in 2 Quebeckers... what about "Canadians".

I grew up in Ottawa, lived in Quebec, am bilingual, have family on both sides of the "border" and I resent the fuck out of anyone that wants to split up my country/nation.

The original comment was directed at "separatists", not "quebeckers"... And I'm totally fine with that!

For Duceppe to be included in the "national" debates and the Green Party (which has arguably the most humane platform and is a "national" party) to be excluded, was just pathetic.

Agreed, and I'm adding you to my f-list. ;)

I fear that if we get a Conservative minority government, and they don't screw up, that we can eventually face a Conservative majority as people are 'softened' to them. Once they get a majority, it's like Gordo in BC all over again.

Best case scenario, Cons get the minority and then screw it up as the wingnuts come out of the woodwork.

No Idea

I have no idea on Canada's political situation. Can you tell us how each of those parties would be described (left, centreist, right etc.).

How many support gay marriage? And is that likely to be rolled back?
